Concept Colt 3 & 4

The best selling Concept Colt has the ability to produce a considerable amount of smoke 'off power' using the retained energy within the high mass heat exchanger, allowing an operator to carry a generator from room to room, making smoke as required, without a trailing electrical lead.

In service with numerous fire authorities world-wide, many NATO forces (including the USN and Royal Navy for shipboard training), as well as analytical laboratories, asbestos removal specialists, and HVAC and LEV contractors, the Concept Colt has an enviable reputation for simplicity of operation and reliability. 

The Concept Colt 4 variants are particularly suited to applications where extremely dense concentrations of smoke are required, or large volumes need to be smoke logged. This is because of the very persistent nature of the smoke produced. The Colt 4 Turbo has a larger 2.2kw heat exchanger resulting in almost twice the smoke output - it is one of the most powerful hand held smoke generators available today. 

The resulting smoke from the Colt 4 has a particle size of just 0.2 - 0.3 micron mmd. The smallest particle size in it's class. This compares to typical entertainment smoke systems that have a particle size of 1-5 microns. This means the Colt 4 doesn't just create the most persistent water based smoke available, it is also the safest. In normal operation, once the smoke has been produced and vented the class leading particle size of the Colt 3 & 4 means that there will be no discernible residue.

Both the Colt 3 & 4 smoke generators come with a precision machined heat exchanger that is guaranteed for life!

Remote operation is available on both units. A choice between a wired remote and radio remote control to suit all applications.

The Concept Colt 3 is better suited to applications where a smoke effect is required, but the effect needs to be of short duration. The resulting smoke from the Colt 3 is thicker, whiter but will disperse in just a few minutes. 

All Colts use a one piece aluminium canister that contains the smoke chemical and inert propellant gas required to make smoke. The canisters automatically re-seal after use, so they can be used time and time again until exhausted.

The use of the canisters reduces the number of moving parts within the machine to just one, resulting in exceptional serviceability and reliability.

Re-fillable aerosol cans are also available if required which can simply be pressurised by a hand pump, airline or inert gas supply.

Concept Colt 4 Turbo

The Turbo variant of our best selling Colt 4 incorporates a much larger mass, precision machined heat exchanger block, and 2 x 1100w Firerod cartridge heaters switched via a solid state relay. The result - almost twice the smoke output of the standard Colt 4, and the ability to make smoke "Off Power" for longer - because it has a greater amount of retained energy within the heat exchanger. With its enhanced performance, the Colt 4 Turbo is capable of smoke logging larger volumes, more quickly, and to denser smoke concentrations than any other similar system. However, the smoke output is completely adjustable, so, if required, smoke output can be reduced from a powerful plume to a small wisp. 

In service with numerous fire authorities world-wide, many NATO forces (including the USN and Royal Navy for shipboard training), as well as analytical laboratories, asbestos removal specialists, and HVAC and LEV contractors, the Concept Colt has an enviable reputation for simplicity of operation and reliability. The entire Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary, after extensive testing, have equipped their entire fleet with the Colt 4 Turbo smoke systems for creating safe but highly realistic fire training scenarios. 

As with any of Concept's mains powered smoke generators the Colt 4 Turbo really is built to last. As standard the unit comes with a 5 year warranty & lifetime guarantee on heater block. The unit uses the standard, one piece aluminium Colt 4 smoke can to produce an extremely persistent smoke. The can contains both the smoke chemical and the INERT propellant gas required to make the smoke. The canister automatically re-seal after use, so they can be used time and time again until exhausted.

The ViCount is arguably one of the worlds most capable smoke generators, used heavily for:

The resulting smoke from the ViCount is extremely persistent, depending on the grade of Smoke Oil selected, the smoke produced by the ViCount can persist to 200°C (compared to typical water based smoke systems 40-50°C) before layering / evaporation commences, making the unit ideally suited to hot fire training applications.  It is also used during carbonaceous burns to top up smoke levels in different compartments.  The ViCount smoke is also unaffected in fast moving air streams / turbulent conditions making it the perfect tool for PPV / Impulse Ventilation training. Even if training or smoke logging in unheated conditions, the smoke produced by the ViCount will out-perform all conventional water based alternatives, whilst dramatically reducing the consumption of Smoke Chemical. Typically, users of water based glycol smoke systems can experience reductions of 80-90% in smoke chemical consumption, for similar if not better smoke densities. Please note that the ViCount can also be programmed / adapted to cater for Concept's water based smoke fluid. Concept's main priority with all smoke generators is the safety of the smoke - especially in Fire Training Applications where extremely dense concentrations are needed to create the most realistic scenarios possible.  Whilst out performing water based smoke systems, the smoke from the ViCount is also the safest in its class, tested by the Health and Safety Executive, National Occupational Hygiene Service, US Navy and the AWE (Atomic Weapons Establishment).  When dense concentrations are needed for training purposes the ViCount uses a fraction of smoke fluid compared to water based smoke systems to achieve a given effect - meaning that LEL's are much much lower! 

The unit produces a non-toxic, food-quality, artificial smoke entrained in an inert carrier gas stream (usually CO2 or Nitrogen).  ViCount smoke, although intrinsically bio-degradable, does not evaporate like conventional water based systems.

The ViCount requires virtually no maintenance due is its automatic purge system. After every operation the ViCount clears any remaining smoke fluid, preventing carbonisation in the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger on this unit and all of Concept's mains powered smoke generators are guaranteed for life.

The smoke produced by the ViCount has a particle size 1/10th that of conventional artificial smokes, hence dramatically less chemical is required to smoke log any particular volume.  Smoke can be vented from premises after a building envelope or leak test, leaving no signs or indications that a test has even been carried out.

Ventilation & Air Handling Systems

The ViCount is heavily used for impulse / PPV (positive pressure ventilation) / road tunnel / car park ventilation tests.  The resulting smoke is dense, highly visible and incredibly realistic even over long distances. 

 

Wind Tunnels 

The entire range of ViCount smoke systems produce a consistent aerosol / smoke particle size and distribution throughout a wide range or pressures, and will produce anything from a tiny wisp (for small scale applications) to a large plume of smoke (for large scale applications e.g. NASA's Glenn - the world's largest wind tunnel).

Smoke from the ViCount can be passed through flexible ducting if required using optional ducting adaptors.  Further reductions can be made, and we are happy to advise on the construction of rakes etc.   

 

HEPA Filter Testing 

The ViCount is commonly used for HEPA filtration tests due to its consistent particle size of just 0.2 - 0.3 microns.  It can also be programmed to use Ondina El or Emery 3004 / Durasyn 164 - the approved oil for HEPA filter tests.

The Spirit 900 Smoke Generator

The Spirit 900 is well suited to applications where continuous, high smoke output is required, since it utilises a continuously rated pump.

Like the Concept Colt 4, it generates the most persistent water based smoke of any smoke machine available.  Typical water based smoke systems are resistant to temperatures of 35-45°C where as the Spirit 900 using fluid A is still effective when temperatures reach 55°C.

Using a protected solid state relay for heater switching at zero volts, an IP65 rated digital microprocessor temperature control displaying actual and set temperatures, and splashproof switches and indicators the Spirit 900 does not compromise in the quality of the components used within the system. The temperature of the heat exchanger is PID controlled so that the heat is pulsed as main set point is reached, minimising overshoot and undershoot.

The pump draws Smoke Fluid A (persistent) or Smoke Fluid B (quickly dispersing) from its integral 2 litre reservoir (or an external reservoir if specified), forcing it into Concept's unique precision machined heat exchanger, where it is vaporised.  The fluid consumption is extremely low - just 50ml per minute on maximum output - meaning exceptional running costs! On exiting the heat exchanger, the vapour condenses to form dense, white, non toxic smoke, with an incredibly consistent, and small particle size of 0.2-0.3 micron mmd. 

All Spirit 900s are supplied with a 5 metre remote control.  The unit can come with an optional wireless remote control with 150m range (line of sight).

The Spirit 900 was voted overall winner in Fire Professional magazine’s Back to Back smoke generator test, against 4 other leading brands. They concluded that:

Concept Smoke Fluids

Concept offer a wide range of safe smoke fluid to suit each smoke machine available.  

The golden rule, that any quality artificial smoke manufacturer will tell you - only ever use the manufacturers recommended smoke fluid in your machine. The use of incorrect smoke fluid or "generic" fluid can lead / create potentially toxic,  flammable smoke, wet residue or damage to your smoke generator.

Concept Smoke Oil 180 / 135

Smoke Oil 180 / 135 can be used in the Concept ViCount / Vulcan smoke generators.  It creates an extremely persistent smoke with a particle size of just 0.2 micron mmd.  The artificial smoke created from Smoke Oil 180 is resistant to temperatures that exceed 200 degrees Celsius, the smoke is also virtually unaffected in turbulant conditions.  The Smoke Oil is intrinsically biodegradable and in addition to its use as a safe smoke simulant, it is used as a component in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic and plastics industries when there is demand for an extremely high standard of oil purity. Available in 5Ltr or 208Ltr Drum.

Concept Smoke Fluid A 

Concept's most popular water based smoke fluid is Fluid A.  This is the safest and most persistent water based smoke fluid available today.  Most water based smoke machines will operate effectively in temperatures up to 35 degrees celsius.  Due to the makeup of Smoke Fluid A, temperatures of up to 55 degrees celsius can be reached.  Fluid A is used in Concept's Spirit 900A & Colt 4 range.  Available in 5Ltr or 208Ltr Drum.

Concept Smoke Fluid B 

Smoke Fluid B gives a quickly dispersing smoke effect.  The Smoke Fluid  is used in Concept's Colt 3 and also a specially modified Spirit 900B.  It is a great fluid for when the resulting effect needs to be of a short duration.  Commonly used to simulate the effect of steam.  Available in 5Ltr or 208Ltr Drum.

Concept Smoke Fluid C 

Smoke Fluid C is the newest addition to Concept's Fluid Range.  The resulting effect is in-between   Fluid A and Fluid B, giving an effect that will last roughly 20-25 minutes.   it can be used in conjunction with the Spirit 900 when specially configured.  Available in 5Ltr or 208Ltr Drum.

B1/Airtrace Smoke Fluid 

Concept's B1 and Airtrace use different smoke fluids to our standard range, being of a significantly lower viscosity.  The B1 and Airtrace smoke fluid is available in 5Ltr or 0.5Ltr as the fluid consumption is very low.
